We love David's Bridal!

For those of you who don't know I currently work at Gap as a Sales Associate and on the weekends I am a children's birthday party entertainer. Let me tell you, those jobs do not pay rent so I am in pursuit of another job. I went out on Saturday and gave my cover letter and resume to Hooters, David's Bridal, Porto's, Yummy Cupcakes, and this vintage clothing store on Magnolia. I felt the least confident about Hooters and David's Bridal, for obvious reasons. However those were the two places that were hiring so I filled out applications and I have a job interview with David's Bridal tomorrow!! Wish me luck!

Yesterday one of the most amazing things happened to me! My friend Danielle and I went to one of my favorite restaurants Miceli's and who else was there? Rachel McAdams...

No really, it was her!! She was accompanied by Micheal Sheen, for those of you who aren't familiar with his work, he plays the purely evil Aro in the Twilight series. So once Danielle and I realized she was there we thought of all the different ways we could casually introduce ourselves and ask for a picture. We waited until their party was leaving and we waltzed over and introduced ourselves and asked for a picture. My FAVORITE part of it all was when Danielle was like, "Oh hey Micheal Sheen could you take the picture?" He did so, but not happily. She on the other hand, was a delight! I have so much respect for her and her talents. She's taken on such a wide range of roles, from The Notebook to Mean Girls. I almost cried when she told us, "Good luck with your careers!"

Another amazing event in my life was attending the Camp Bravo Magic of a Moment benefit! Camp Bravo has been a huge part of my life for the last five years and this amazing event is a way that we can give back! The benefit raises money for campers that wouldn't be able to attend camp otherwise. In addition to the wonderful cause I got to see all of my camp friends!

The lovely Robyn and Kelsey, who made my experience this year at Bravo!

Today my TV obsession has been Cake Boss: The Next Great Baker. It's a dream of mine to one day work at or own a bakery. I love baking and because of that I've developed quite the sweet tooth! Now bringing it back to the actual show, it's fantastic! It's a bunch of talented bakers thrown in a competition to be the next great baker. The only thing that I have a hard time with is when Buddy throws away the "failed" baked goods. When I see delicious food go into the trash can all I can feel is utter shock and a lot of disappointment...

Never throw away perfectly good food...it's just wrong.

On that note I will now go bake a cake to prove to myself that I am my own next great baker,
Ashley

Fan Girl Moments.

It feels like it's been months since I last posted anything, well that's because it's been about a month since I have. Here's a quick life update, Sophie the kitten is slowly becoming more and more insane. Cute but insane...

Jenny and I moved into our adorable new apartment, which is decorated beautifully for the holidays.
I got the footage for the Kleenex student spec that I did, it's basically the most unattractive thing that I could possibly show you...but here it is.

Updates on my L.A. actress life...

Nick Jonas and I are meeting all around Hollywood right now. Jenny and I think it's because my mother keeps telling the universe that I should marry him, that universe it'll bring you what you wish for! Our first encounter was when I went to the Jonas' Hollywood after party with my lovely successful actress friend Meaghan Martin, most of you know her from Camp Rock and others know her from ABC Family's 10 Things I Hate About You. Well she invited me to go to the after party with her last Thursday night after the guys performed at the Pantages. Now something you have to understand is that I was 13 when the Jonas Brothers were big, when I was packing up my clothes to move to L.A. I found a Mrs. Future Jonas shirt. So naturally when Meaghan asked I instantly turned 13 again...
See what I did there...threw some Christmas on that.

As I've grown out of my boy band phase I've grown right into my wedding/marriage show obsession. Say Yes to the Dress, My Fair wedding, Four Weddings, and dont' forget Married to Jonas. So instead of 13 year old Ashley who would've been tickled to meet the brothers, we're now dealing with 18 year old Ashley who is simply starstruck meeting Danielle Jonas.
Vera Wang people...Vera Wang custom made her dress!
*Swoon*

So the party was great and the boys were all super nice, not as nice as Danielle though, she's a sweetheart! My second run in with Nick Jonas was last night while I was working as audience on the X Factor. The show is taped and aired live so when we're on commercial break everyone just chills. Well during one of the breaks while we were chillin some girls behind me started screaming, I recognized this scream. This was a die hard boy band fan scream, I heard this kind of scream in 2008 when my sister's and I went to the Jonas Brothers concert in Vegas. Boy was I right, I looked up and there was Nick Jonas, he went up to the judges table to say hi to Demi. I couldn't help but giggle thinking about how we shook hands a week ago. That's the last of my Nick Jonas run ins for now but we'll see, it's a small world we live in.

Yes people I was that close to Britney Spears

I was even closer to her when she was exiting, she also looked at me and waved. I could have easily stuck out my hand to touch her, that is if I wanted to be escorted out of the building by six different security guards. Before 13 year old Ashley was obsessed with the Jonas brothers, 8 year old Ashley was idolizing this Princess of Pop. Here's a little secret, on the other side of my Audrey Hepburn poster currently hanging in my room is my Britney poster from her concert, which was my first concert ever! Anyone remember this?

As you can see this blog entry is dedicated to the fan girl that lives in all of us. Before I go, I would like to give my last fan girl shout out to Mindy Kaling. For those of you who don't know her she's currently staring on the Fox hit The Mindy Project, which she also writes! She's written a book as well, "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me," which I have every intention of reading. Tune in on Tuesday for a bit of this...

Hope you enjoyed it,
Ashley

Weekend up and baking gif advice

As you all know I just spent my weekend in Las Vegas with my family! The weekend was over in the blink of an eye, I was busy almost every minute this weekend! Right when I arrived I dropped off little Sophie, got her situated and then went right to the Breaking Dawn premiere with my mother, sisters, and my sister's best friend Taylor. Talk about getting your mind blown with a twist, geez! You bet the entire theatre had something to say about it...

I not only saw Breaking Dawn once this weekend but twice, compliments of my friend Bailey who had an extra ticket for me on Friday night! Also this weekend my sister and I did a charity walk for Safe House! Safe House is a shelter for abused women and children, I've been working on different programs with them since I was in 5th grade!

The last official Vegas thing we did was take our Nunes family Christmas pictures. Now every single year before we take pictures someone cries, EVERY YEAR! So this year we were doing just fine until the car ride to Portrait Innovations. All morning my mom had been telling my little brother AJ to brush his teeth. While we're in the car my sister Ana, who was sitting next to AJ, said, "Ew your breath stinks!!" Then my mother calmly asked, "Aj did you brush your teeth?" He answered very slowly, "No, I forgot." My mother then just exploded, "ANTONIO NUNES, I ASKED YOU A MILLION TIMES THIS MORNING TO BRUSH YOUR TEETH!! Fine no computer time for you today." Then he burst into tears about 15 minutes before our appointment for pictures. Classic Nunes family moment. One year my mother sent out a picture with my sister crying...that was a great year. Once we got to Portrait Innovations AJ pulled it together, here's a sneak peak of what you should expect from this years photos!

Now let's talk about the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday...BEST DAY EVER!! Thanksgiving would be my favorite holiday if we didn't eat the same dinner on Christmas, plus open presents, plus my mom's birthday is on Christmas day. This year for Thanksgiving my family is coming to eat with me in my apartment! I'm only 18 and already hosting Thanksgiving geesh! Aside from the food one of my favorite parts of Thanksgiving is the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade. Broadway performances, the Rockettes, and so many huge balloon characters, how could you not love it?! Well I hope that you all have a fabulous Thanksgiving, spend lots of time with your family, and eat until you can't eat anymore!!

Some tips about baking for this holiday season, remember that this is not how you properly fold eggs into your batter...

Happy Thanksgiving,

Another day in the life...

This is the second time I'm writing a post in one week, crazy town I know. Well let me tell you that I have quite the day ahead of me. Today I'm meeting with the ladies at Maven Talent to discuss the possibility of them representing me as my manager, or managers, I'm not entirely sure how that works. I'm so lucky have only be in LA for two months and already have a meeting with a manager! Hopefully it all goes well and they can help me book some big commercial work! I'd prefer a Garnier commercial...I mean my everyday hair flip is as good as Ariel's.

image

After my meeting with them I'm headed home to Vegas for the weekend! My first official act of the weekend will be attending the 10pm premiere of Breaking Dawn with my sisters and my mom. My sister's are both HUGE Twilight fans and my mother just goes along because she enjoys the fact that something in this world brings my sisters together in silent peace for two to three hours. After that my weekend will be filled with visiting friends, seeing a show at my high school, and of course spending time with the family. Home sweet home...

This morning my roommate and I met with the landlord for the new apartment that we're getting, it was glorious. She's so organized and easy to work with; unlike our current landlord who still doesn't know that I live here, or that we have a cat...not to mention the fact that we have two. So with that being said, the other day when I was home alone with the cats this woman knocked on the door. Being the kind person I am I answered thinking maybe she was a neighbor that needed help with something or whatever...NOPE. She said she was the manager.
image

As she introduced herself to me little princess Sophie ran right out the door, I grabbed her just in time so she wouldn't escape but was certainly seen by the manager. She asked if she could show our apartment to some people RIGHT NOW and I panicked and said, "yeahijustneedtoooummmcouldyouwaitlikkwelllll," very articulate I know. She said, "Oh we can give you a few minutes or whatever you need." "YESPERFECTTHANKYOU," I kind of screamed. Door slam. See at any other time I would've showed them no problem, however all of my stuff is in my room and the cats and the disposal is broken and no just no. So I called Jenny and after we formulated a plan to hide the cats in the closet and throw all my belongings out the window we decided just to tell her that I couldn't show the place...to just say no. That went over surprisingly well, she said it was totally fine and that she knew it was short notice. *This is why you shouldn't withhold information from people, I don't say lie because we aren't lying...just withholding information.

Well I'm off to my meeting but before I leave you I want to show you a special video. If you aren't inspired by the holiday season yet then this will certainly get you there! Enjoy!

That's all for now,
Ashley

The week I've had...

What an interesting week I've just had, some ups but more downs  unfortunately. First of all little baby Sophie has needed to go to the Vet for the past two weeks and I've had to reschedule because of my work twice. Then finally the day of her appointment the Vet calls and says sorry they can't see Sophie today because the doctor left for the day...
image

The plus side to that is that I eventually got to take the little princess and she got a collar and a name tag! I went ahead and got the extremely girlie pink and purple because of the gender crisis we had the first two weeks together, she deserves it!

Yesterday was wonderful because I got to have brunch with my best friend Emma! We met in Silver Lake and if any of you have ever driven through silver lake before you'll know that the roads are extremely windy and TINY. Unfortunately on my way there I got lost and so I while driving I was focusing on the street signs then WHAM, I took some one's side mirror right off.

image

Nothing like this has ever happened to me before in my life, I felt sooo awful. So I pulled over and wrote my information on the back of a paper CD case and left it on his window. *The up side to this* When the guy called me this morning to talk about what happened he was sooo nice and totally understanding AND I got to see Emma moments later...

Now something negative that I deal with everyday is that little Sophie thinks that 6:30-7am is time to wake up and play. Right about that time everyday she gets up and walks all over my face meowing and purring a bit like this...
Annoying Cat

Well this week I went to see a taping of The Doctor's with my roommate's mom, she was picking me up at 7am because we needed to be there at 7:45. The night before Jenny and I had stayed up until 2am watching Friends and me crying about my lack of friends. The next morning I had no clue if my alarms even went off but there was little Sophie right on cue at 6:30. Normally I get so frustrated with her, but that day I couldn't thank her enough for being my personal alarm clock!

On Friday night I got booked to be an extra in a music video, I didn't know that name of the artist off the top of my head and then I looked her up...OH...MY...Taryn Manning, one of the actresses from Crossroads! "The lame Brittany Spears movie," you say. Yes that was my childhood and it is NOT lame..or at least it wasn't when I was 10. Taryn Manning such a kind humble person! She also told me that working with Brittany is the REAL deal, that she doesn't mess around...or at least she didn't at that point in her career.

So in case you didn't notice there was a theme to my post today, basically I had a rough week overall but I just have to focus on the positive things that come from it! I'm experiencing the beginning of my adult life right now and sometimes things are wonderful and other times they suck and I just sit on the couch and cry to my incredible roommate who has made this whole transition 100 times easier. I just need to keep being positive even when things seem to be going wrong. I'm in LA living my dream, how much better can it get?

Now before I go I will add a small part about the election, Jenny and I looked a little something like this when we heard the news...

Have a happy Sunday folks,
Ashley

While seasons are changing...

It's the best time of year again, there is so much to be excited about! Halloween was only two days ago so now all the candy is on sale. Christmas decorations are starting to make their way onto the shelves, and my personal favorite No Shave November, when all the men are hairy and all the girls are wearing pants. Not to mention the fact that sweater weather is simply better weather.

So this year was my first year of not trick or treating, I used to take my brother around the neighborhood every year but being here in LA means put a kink in those plans. Instead I dragged my poor tired from a long day at work because she has a big girl job roommate to our friends for a small Halloween bash. We took many beautiful photos as well...
From roomies to besties with a beautiful hallway moment!

Lifeguard, Ghost Buster, and Who's that girl? It's Jess!

Watch out LA Jenny and Ashley are on the prowl for a new apartment and we will challenge you if we must. Do not stand in the way of the master baker cat ladies or you shall pay the price! We make a great team, Jenny browses the web and sends me her picks then I make appointments and see if they are worthy or not. We've been very fortunate so far and we've seen some beautiful places but nothing has screamed home yet. I'll be seeing two more places today so hopefully that's our place! We just need to walk in and feel it, sort of like this...

So another thing on my mind these days is guys, but I mean what girl isn't thinking about them? Last Sunday Jenny and I met our friend Robyn at The Griddle, and let me just tell you guys...the men working there are all so beautiful! The three of us carried on a conversation about our cats for a solid fifteen minutes but were interrupted by handsome men inviting us to comedy clubs and band performances. Not only are the servers perfect but the pancake I got looked just like this...

Could you imagine the poundage I would put on if I dated a guys who worked there...we can't even joke about that. I've already gained so much weight because my roommate and I are both stupidly good at baking, last night we were up until midnight working on the newest recipe of whoopie pies!

As far as living my dream goes I booked a student film that shoots at USC on Saturday! I'm really excited about this because it's going to be perfect for my reel and the part is so great! Slightly bitchy and a little dumb, but in the end you see that she has a great heart. It's perfect! I realize that I am so lucky to be out here in LA living my dream and making it happen for myself, it's all just a waiting game now. Waiting for a manager, waiting for an agent, waiting for my big break. I just have to be patient and it will all come in time.

I will now send you off with a gif from one of my favorite shows on TV right now, New girl. If you don't watch it then you need to start people! Tuesday nights at 9pm on Fox, is where you can catch this little beauty.

That's all for now folks,
Ashley

Attack of the gifs

It's been a while since I've written mainly because I've finally had a lot of stuff to do. Woo hoo!! That was something that was very hard for me to adjust to when I first got to LA, I came from having a schedule that went 100 miles an hour to being completely free. Well on Sunday I had training for Gap, my boss and I are getting along swimmingly, she said it's because I'm weird and I was like...

That's me!

In other news over the weekend Jenny and I went to her family's Halloween party, it was super fun and we both nailed our costumes!

Everyone was highly impressed!

So since I've been in LA I've basically tried to do everything I can to make my dream work also to make money. I've done quite a few audience gigs, where they pay me to come to the studio and sit in the audience for the day or a few hours. Doing this has gotten me into some beautiful studios like Warner Brothers, NBCUniversal, and Culver Studios. Every time I go in there I am so inspired! I just see everyone walking around the studio with headsets and the cameras and lights, it makes me feel a bit like this.

I just know that this is what I am meant to do, as sappy as you may think that sounds! It's just this gut feelings that I get. I'm putting it out into the universe and I'm praying that it comes true!

So tonight I'm subbing a tap class for this girl who I met while I was an audience member on Ricki Lake. The trick is that I have almost no clue what I'm doing! I was just a pretend tapper until I was in Crazy For You this past summer. That defiantly kicked my butt into being a good tapper! I'm just scared that I'll go in there and the students will be like she has no clue what she's doing..

Well hopefully that doesn't happen so I can blog to you guys again,
Ashley

Weekend Adventures with my gender questionable cat

My trip to Vegas was a great way to spend my weekend! My roommate went camping with her family and since my kitten needed to go to the vet I figured it's the perfect time to go home. This however has given my mother the idea that I can just keep coming back whenever I want, because I just have the money for that -_-

Adventures from the weekend include

                                                       Carmel apple making

Taking AJ to golf

Catching up with some wonderful friends and family

It does really suck that after being the big man on campus in high school, you then go out into the real world and realize that you're at the bottom once again. Going back to LVA was really nice I was greeted by so many happy smiling faces, not to mention that I got to see a very entertaining show that night. SHOUT OUT DAVID IVES CAST, you guys did a great job!!

Also while I was in Vegas I took little kitty to the vet....well he's a she! Little AllanFrankSinatraCharlie is now just Sophie. I now know why I couldn't commit to a name for her before, they were boy names and she's a SHE! Little Sophie is now getting in the habit of 7am wake up calls. She falls asleep on my cuddle pillow snuggled up to my face and at 7am she's wide awake and ready to play, mommy does NOT think this is very funny...

Since I've been back in big girl life I have hung posters in my room, with actual hammer and nails! I went to an audition this morning, I'm currently doing laundry, and I'm hoping to catch a class at the gym later. (I brought an apple pie home from Vegas with me, my roommate also brought an apple pie home from camping with her).

Stay tuned for news about the audition and stories about little Sophie,
Ashley

Home to the strip...

I still love that every time I say I'm from Vegas I get these strange looks as though I grew up in another world. Which is true now that I think about it, my high school was walking distance from Fremont street (home of all the Vegas crazies).

Home Sweet Home.

The car ride was a little crazy, we drove through five different rain storms and little Charlie was NOT happy about it. This was his first long car ride and now it's pouring down rain?! My car did get a nice car wash out of it though, because of the high speed travel as the rain hit it cleaned the car and flew off the back. Glorious, glorious I tell you.

Little Charlie is getting some MAJOR Nunes family love

This picture is obviously all about my model in the making brother Aj but you can see little Charlie in there somewhere. He has his first visit to the Vet tomorrow to get his shots, poor baby, he's excepting get well baskets starting tomorrow. I'm very excited to be back in Vegas for the weekend; I plan on doing some awesome fall actives with my family, seeing a show at LVA, and catching up with some friends.

I'll let you know about all of my rad Vegas adventures later,
Ashley

My new LA life!

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog! As much as I like to think that I sound like Carrie Bradshaw with her great advice about Sex and the City, this blog will be less about the sex and more about the wonderful city that I'm living in.

Los Angeles, where about 80% of the people I've met have dreams as big as mine. Practically everyone has something to do with the industry here. I've had a wonderful experience so far, some days are better than others, that is just how life is I suppose. I have a beautiful apartment, a beautiful roommate, and  beautiful little kitten.

We had a little naming crisis with the kitten. At first his name was Allan, then I thought why didn't I name him Frank Sinatra because Frank was the love of my young musical life. Neither of them fit this little guy's personality. Then last night as Jenny and I were doing our ritual of watching Sex and the City and eating popcorn and cookie dough, it came to us. I said, "It's a shame he's not a girl cause I can't name him Carrie or Charlotte." Jenny just replied with, "Charlie." The little guy has had the name ever since, and it fits him quite well. You guys will be hearing a whole lot about little Charlie in this blog.

Now about my job...

I am a party entertainer, if that's even the right name for it. I dress up as different characters as well as a clown that can make balloon animals, face paint, and do SIMPLE magic tricks. It's pretty much the best job ever because the money is great and I make special birthday memories that the kids will have forever! I also just got hired at the Gap on Ventura, my training is tomorrow so hopefully all goes well!

Stay tuned for more of my life LA style,
Ashley
